Service Employees International Union

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is a labor union, founded in 1921, representing health care workers (such as nurses and direct care staff), property workers (such as janitors), and state and local government employees. Their membership is approximately 2 million, with over 150 branches in the US. SEIU is considered to be the fastest growing union in the country. The union wants to help its members gain rights in the workplace and is striving to improve the health care system in the United States. In 2008, I briefly met Andy Stern, who was president of the union at the time. The current president is Mary Kay Henry. The link to the local Maryland branch of the union is:
