Sip N' Bite!

I went to the Sip N' Bite in Baltimore for lunch. They have done some remodeling in there but it is still the same old great Sip N' Bite. I ordered the spaghetti and meat balls which was on special. The meal was , how you say, exquisite? And so I highly recommend a place called the Sip N' Bite located in Canton Maryland. Are you stupid or something that you aren't going to the Sip N' Bite?

Raising marginal rates

If the federal government is going to attempt to cut the budget deficit and debt, revenue will need to be raised. In an essay (posted on huffpo 2/15/11) written by former Secretary of Labor (Clinton Administration) Robert Reich proposed what appears to be a pragmatic approach in raising tax rates:

-Marginal tax rate to 70 percent on those making over 15 million

-Marginal tax rate to 60 percent for those making between 5 and 15 million

-Marginal tax rate to 50 percent for those making between 500k and 5 million

These rates would help raise revenue and that revenue would come from those who can afford to pay their share. The ones whose rates will be raised are the ones who benefit the most from the work of the federal govt to provide infrastructure and policing of property rights etc. They have the most to benefit from a healthy economy. Similar rates to the ones proposed by Reich did not seem to slow investments in the 1950's. There are many factors that lead to slowed economy, but there has to be something to the fact that the economy has been in bad shape since the Bush Administration cut the rates for those making the most. If cuts in services such as Medicare are being considered, then these changes in tax rates need to be considered as well.

Trump to hire DeNiro

Donald Trump has announced through Trump Pictures his plan to film the life story of Albert Einstein, with Robert DeNiro as the famed mathematician. "Well he’s not the brightest bulb on the planet," said Trump of De Niro during a phone interview on "Fox & Friends." "I’ve been watching him over the years and I like his acting, but you know in terms of when I watch him doing interviews and various other things, we’re not dealing with Albert Einstein-Until Now."

Baltimore McDonald's Beating

This beating at a Rosedale McDonald's is a window into what goes on in Baltimore City and Baltimore County on a regular basis. It is not an uncommon act in malls and fast-food places. Even if many confrontations don't escalate into this kind of violence, taunting, slurs, insults, and threats are omnipresent. Its time for people to stand up against the proliferation of verbal assaults as well as violent assaults.

Matthew 5:43-48
You have learned that they were told, “Love your neighbor, hate your enemy.” But what I tell you is this: Love your enemies and pray for your persecutors; only so can you be children of your heavenly Father, who makes his sun shine on good and bad alike, and sends the rain on the honest and the dishonest. If you love only those who love you, what reward can you expect? Surely the tax-gatherers do as much as that. And if you greet only your brothers, what is there extraordinary about that? Even the heathen do as much. There must be no limit to your goodness, as your heavenly Father’s goodness knows no bounds.
Torah:
"Cain rose against his brother Abel and killed him (Genesis 4:8)." Immediately Cain is punished by G-d with exile and the eventual dying out of his line after seven generations.

 Qur'an:
"Whoever kills a person [unjustly]…it is as though he has killed all mankind. And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved all mankind." (Qur'an, 5:32).

NFL thoughts on a Wednesday

Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2011 will be very cool here in Baltimore. The Baltimore Ravens, coached by John Harbaugh, will play the San Francisco 49'ers, coached by Jim Harbaugh, at M and T Bank Stadium at 8:20 pm. Yes, brother versus brother.

The Ravens are at a pivotal juncture in the John Harbaugh regime. As it is with every NFL team, their success hinges on the play of their starting quarterback. The Ravens have fourth year QB Joe Flacco from the University of Delaware. Flacco is looking to gain 'elite' status. The quarterbacks who can make a case for being in that 'elite' class right now are: Brady, Rivers, Rodgers, Roethlisberger, P. Manning, and Brees. I think Roethlisberger will drop off somewhat this year due to the Steeler's losing their air of big-game invincibility with the Super Bowl loss. Michael Vick is too inconsistent to figure out where he ranks so I am putting Flacco above him. Please don't make me laugh by mentioning Matt Ryan. (After Ryan's play-off performance last year against the Packers, he should be calling Jim Clausen for advice). My feeling is that Flacco will enter that next level and the Ravens will make a strong post-season run in 2011.

Sanka switch to blame for Air-traffic Controller Issue

Someone at the FAA wanted to switch the coffee that air-traffic controllers normally drink with Sanka Decaffeinated. The result? First Lady almost killed. Thanks, coffee police.

Charles Manson admits to being "a little out there"

Charles Manson recently gave interviews for the first time in two decades. "I have to admit, I sounded a little loco in my past interviews," admitted Manson. "I mean sheesh". Manson pointed a finger toward his head while moving it in a circular motion as a way to describe his past behavior. "Let's face it, I caused the death of many people. I am totally insane. The authorities may do some things I don't agree with, but locking me up for life actually makes sense."

Bing is really Great!

Hey have you tried the search engine "Bing"? It is really a great search engine. You just put a word into the search engine box, press "enter" and..yes, "bing" as if by magic, a list of possible info on your query appears on-screen. It is really wonderful. It is not unlike another large search engine except that that search engine will abruptly rip out all your ads and take away all the money it promises but thats not why I'm saying give "Bing" a try. I really do like Bing. Besides not being a place that takes things away without warning or notice, "Bing" is really better.

Torrey C Brown Trail

Today I walked on the Torrey C Brown Trail, formerly known as the North Central Rail Trail. This trail starts on Ashland Road in Hunt Valley and goes north to the Maryland-Pennsylvania line. It is about 20 miles long. The path is extremely well-designed and safe. The 'mileage markers' are clear and this helps with maintaining ones barrings for the walk. The path was once a train track and relics from that era are still preserved along the trail. The history of the trail is shown on plaques along the route. Parking is ample. The folks who shared the path with me this morning seemed friendly. If you need to escape to a place that offers solace and luscious woodlands, this is the place. You can ease into your own relaxed pace while taking in the verdant environs. Putting yourself into a Thoreau mindset is not easy if you live in Charm city, but with this sanguine walk, it is doable. A quote which crystallizes the experience is from Thoreau himself:

"As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives."

Cee Lo suffering memory loss

Following a successful performance at "Coachella" this weekend, singer Thomas De Carlo Callaway aka 'Cee Lo Green'  announced that he has been experiencing memory loss recently. "Its like I can't remember stuff," said Green, "like where stuff is or where I am supposed to go. I've just been having trouble with remembering. I keep doing something which is not remembering."

Why China banned talk of time travel

The Government of the People's Republic of China banned the use of the idea of time travel in their country. What prompted this action was a recent report of the three worst ideas ever for the use of time travel...

1) Melvin Unger of Watertown, New York said that if given the ability to travel back in time, he would go back to the 1961, walk into Sterling Cooper ad agency, and pitch to Don Draper all the famous ad campaigns of the 70's and 80's..like Wisk detergent "ring around the collar', Charmin's "Mr Whipple", and the McDonald's 'I'm loving it'.

2) Eddie Lipholder of Crabapple Cove, Maine said he would go back in time to kill the infant inventor of the plastic things CD's are sold in so they would never be created.

3) Dick Winehurts of Saddlefront, Mississippi would go back to when Jennifer Lopez was on 'In Living Color" so he could ask her out before she became famous and "full of herself."

Real 'birthers' not "Birthers"

Birther (top) and birthers (bottom)
The Midwives Association of America (Mana) is an alliance of midwives which recognizes the diversity of training and background within the profession. These "birthers" are working are to delineate their organization from those groups called "birthers" who are trying to question the authenticity of President Obama's birth-certificate and the fact that Obama was born in the United States.

President Obama from GWU today...Yay!

Stock pic not from today
"The fact is, their vision is less about reducing the deficit than it is about changing the basic social compact in America. As Ronald Reagan's own budget director said, there's nothing "serious" or "courageous" about this plan. There's nothing serious about a plan that claims to reduce the deficit by spending a trillion dollars on tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires. There's nothing courageous about asking for sacrifice from those who can least afford it and don't have any clout on Capitol Hill. And this is not a vision of the America I know." (whitehouse.gov)

Service Employees International Union

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is a labor union, founded in 1921, representing health care workers (such as nurses and direct care staff), property workers (such as janitors), and state and local government employees. Their membership is approximately 2 million, with over 150 branches in the US. SEIU is considered to be the fastest growing union in the country. The union wants to help its members gain rights in the workplace and is striving to improve the health care system in the United States. In 2008, I briefly met Andy Stern, who was president of the union at the time. The current president is Mary Kay Henry. The link to the local Maryland branch of the union is:

Michele Bachmann tackles heckler, heckles tackler

Michele Bachmann
Jerod Mayo
Michele Bachmann responded to a heckler while giving a speech Monday at the University of Iowa. Bachmann was heckled while speaking about the US role in Libya. To her credit, Bachmann answered questions from the person who did the heckling after her speech was completed. Following the speech, Bachmann traveled to Boston to attend a speech given by Jerod Mayo, Patriots Inside Linebacker. Mayo led the NFL in tackles in 2010 with 175 combined tackles. Bachmann began to harass Mayo with impertinent questions while Mayo tried to give his speech.

NFL historians leaving out crucial element of Tom Brady draft selection in 2000

Tom Brady was chosen 199th in the 2000 NFL draft. He was the 6th QB taken. Of all the QB's taken before him, only Marc Bulger and Chad Pennington have had notable NFL careers. In an attempt to make something greater than what it was, folks at the NFL Network and NFL Films are trying to revise history and make it seem as if Patriots coach Bill Belichick masterminded the pick all along; that he knew the talent he had in Brady, waiting prudently until round 6 to take the University of Michigan QB. The Patriots actually lucked out in the selection. If they had been confident of Brady's potential, they would have taken him much sooner in that draft. Brady walked into the 'perfect storm', an environment set up for him to succeed. Not only did Brady come under the tutelage of one of the NFL's all-time best coaches, he also had the good fortune of being mentored by the gracious Drew Bledsoe, New England's veteran starting  quarterback at the time. The Patriots deserve credit for their choice and Brady deserves credit for his career, but there's no reason to rewrite the story and leave out the part luck factored into it.

Donald Trump attacks 5 of the 8 "Cosby kids"

Cosby Kids
Bill Cosby
Angry
Donald Trump continued his vengeful assault on aged comedian Bill Cosby by brutally insulting 5 of the 8 Cosby kids. "Fat Albert, Rudy, and Bill were acceptable," said Trump. "Mushmouth ticked me off. Dumb Donald, Weird Harold, and Russell, gave me chills and not in a good way. Bucky, I really didn't get. I found the whole troupe in general to be repulsive at best. These junkyard ruffians were a very strange group indeed."

Republican congressman actually does see a Ronald Reagan

Recently, California Republican Rep. David Drier said that,"Everybody is looking for a Ronald Reagan and they don't see one". Dont tell that to Norm Kunsler, RI congressman from the 3rd district. "I see a Ronald Reagan everywhere I go. Its strange. I'm not sure if its a ghost or some kind of delusion but I see one everywhere. Today, driving my cab..a Ronald Reagan. In the capitol cloakroom, another one." These apparitions have been plaguing Kunsler for several weeks now. "I'm going to have to see a psychic or something. This paranormal stuff gives me the creeps."

"Hawaii 5-0" production suspended due to moment of quality acting

101st Productions announced a temporary halt to the production of the television program "Hawaii 5-0" following an internal investigation when actor Alex O'Loughlin managed to say the tag-line "book 'em, Danno" in an unstilted, completely naturalistic way. "It was something that we never expected," said an assistant director. "O'Loughlin said the line as if he was a person actually saying words. Weird."

Ravens best draft choice

Gabe Carimi aka "The Jewish Hammer"  played Left Tackle for the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He won the 2010 'Outland Trophy', an award given to the nation's best collegiate interior lineman.  He is our suggestion for the Raven's first pick in this year's NFL draft. With the 26th pick, it is unlikely that Carimi will be available, but if he is, lets hope Ozzie Newsome (Ravens general manager) makes this pragmatic choice. The Ravens need help on the O line and the 6'7''- 315 lb.- never- injured Carimi seems like a great fit. When asked if he would play football on Yom Kippur, Carimi responded that he had already checked and that Yom Kippur doesn't fall on a Sunday for the next 15 years. That's the kind of 'thinking ahead' the Ravens could use. ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper predicts the Eagles taking Carimi with the 23rd pick, and Mel is money. The quandary that faces all late first-round selections for the GM is: is this player good enough to attain by trading to move to a higher draft position, and if he is available at 26, with all the surrounding hype, what do other people know? If the Ravens are successful in getting him, Baroch Haba  Mr. Carimi! (thanks various Ravens blogs, Ravens site, wikipedia)
